At a glance
grip. is a movement and wellness studio at The Tubeworks on Floodgate Street, in Birmingham’s Digbeth and Deritend area. Set within an industrial building, the studio pairs exposed brick, soft lighting, earthy tones and considered architectural details with a calm, focused atmosphere. The result is an urban training space designed for controlled movement, strength work and recovery.
The programme covers several approaches to training. Megaformer sessions use slow resistance for low-impact, full-body strength and endurance, with an emphasis on control and muscular effort. ReforMAT is a floor-based Pilates format centred on alignment, breathwork and core activation. Yoga sessions include Somatic Hatha Flow and Restorative Yin, offering slower practices for mobility, mindfulness and relaxation. HIIT classes bring functional strength, conditioning and more explosive movement, with options that can be adjusted for different abilities.
Class formats are organised around different movement moods. grip. focuses on full-body strength and control, while glutes concentrates on lower-body work. glow takes a more rhythmic approach to movement and resetting, and afterdark combines higher-intensity training with low lighting and deep beats. The range gives the studio a flexible identity, from measured Pilates and restorative yoga to energetic conditioning.
The studio also offers grip.pod, a solo training format with guided strength, HIIT, core and conditioning sessions. Each pod slot includes AI-guided form feedback, rep counting and personalised pacing cues, allowing independent training with structured support. The approach suits participants who prefer a private workout or want a focused alternative to a group class.
New arrivals are supported with an induction covering the room, equipment and class flow. Classes include low-impact alternatives and modifications, making the formats adaptable while retaining a purposeful level of challenge. Megaformer participants need grip socks, and lockers are available for valuables. The setting suits people looking for structured movement in an atmospheric studio rather than a conventional gym environment, with options for strength, mobility, conditioning and quieter forms of practice.
