Beethoven Moonlight Sonata Piano Concert in Birmingham
This concert, presented by Candlelight Concerts, features Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata and works by Chopin and Liszt, suitable for classical music enthusiasts.
The one-hour programme centres on Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, a well-known and evocative piano piece. Its nickname originates from a poet comparing the music to moonlight on Lake Lucerne. The sonata begins with a quiet, hypnotic opening based on a gentle accompaniment, followed by a lighter middle movement, and concludes with a dramatic, intense finale that challenges the piano’s capabilities.
In addition to Beethoven, the concert includes selected works by Chopin and Liszt, who each expanded the piano’s expressive and technical range in distinct ways.
