Beethoven Moonlight Sonata by Candlelight
Birmingham
Classical Piano Concert Featuring Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt in Birmingham
This one-hour piano concert, held in Birmingham, suits classical music enthusiasts seeking an intimate live performance.
At the centre of the programme is Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, a well-known and haunting piano work. Named after the moonlight shining on Lake Lucerne by a poet of its time, it opens with a quiet, hypnotic movement supported by gently undulating accompaniment. The sonata moves into a lighter middle section before concluding with a turbulent and intense finale that pushes the piano’s limits.
The concert also features selected works by Chopin and Liszt, composers who expanded the piano’s expressive and technical range in distinct ways.
